We need six pages for each of the three legislative sessions. Registration: Registration volunteers handout voting packets to the registered delegates before each of the two sessions and assist the credentials committee. We need 20 volunteers for this. We need 16 volunteers for the Friday with at least two staying longer to help with delegates arriving after the rush, and we need four volunteers for the second day with two staying longer to help close up shop. All registration volunteers will need to attend a training session held at the convention center on Friday morning. Packet Assembly: Packet Assembly volunteers will help put all the delegate materials into the envelopes to be given to the delegates at registration. The assembly will take place at Canterbury Court on Wednesday, Nov. 7. We need 12-20 volunteers, 12 for the first half of the day and eight for the second half. Hospitality: Hospitality volunteers will spend their time greeting people and guiding them to the correct tables or area in the convention center. We will have lists for each of you that show the table assignments. As you can see we still need a lot of help and there are some parishes who need to step up. Please encourage everyone to volunteer, we would love to have more than we need not fewer. Here is the link for the volunteer registration form, http://www.episcopal-dso.org/133DioConv/VolRegForm-editable.pdf . It can be found on-line at the Diocesan website under Diocesan Convention. Dayton Deanery News July 31, 2007, Dayton Deanery Meeting Hello All, ----------------------------
Dayton Deanery News April 30, 2007, Special Dayton Deanery Meeting Fellow member of the Dayton Deanery, We invite representatives from all eight parishes in the Dayton Deanery to attend a special meeting to be held at Canterbury Court Episcopal Retirement Home on Monday, April 30, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Bishop Thomas Breidenthal will be with us. This gathering is part of a series of meetings, to be held in every part of the diocese, that are intended to enable our new Bishop to get to know us better. Members of the Standing Committee and of the Transition Committee will be serving as moderators. Our moderator will be The Rev. Charlotte Reed, Rector of Chris Church, Springfield. These sessions are intended to be “listening events”: we have had the opportunity to ask questions of our Bishop-elect; now it’s his turn to ask us questions. Specifically, there are three questions to which each of us will be invited to respond: >> When did you come to the Diocese, or become active in the life of the wider Diocese? >> What was the most exciting thing happening in the Diocese at that time? >> What is your hearts desire for the Diocese? As for who should attend: Due to the constraints of the room available to us, and to the fact that the intent is to allow everyone to speak yet keep the meeting to two hours, we need to limit the number of those attending. My suggestion would be that, in addition to the clergy, each parish send its (usually two) Deanery representatives and, if possible, its two Wardens. We can be flexible on the numbers, but this can serve as a guideline. If you have another person or two whom you think can contribute to the discussion, please feel free to invite him or her as well. The folks at Canterbury Court have graciously agreed to host us and to provide light refreshments (e.g. coffee, tea and juice). If you have any questions, please let me know. Many thanks. Mike Kreutzer ----------------------------

A committee is meeting to determine the agenda and date etc. for the next Dayton Deanery Day. There are 6 or 7 people on the committee. A suggestion was made to have more structured breakout sessions with a facilitator running each session. One of the items we would like to cover on that day is a mission project for the whole deanery to undertake together. Randy Young has a call into Brother Raymond Fitz at UD, he runs a community leadership office that can help with ideas on a mission project. The event will be hosted by St. George’s. A new date will be announced as soon as it is available. 7:15 --- 2007 Habitat for Humanity Build Planning Randy Young There are meeting ongoing that representatives from each parish are invited to. There will be lots of opportunity for everyone to participate. 7:30 --- Updates from the Member Parishes All Christ Church Xenia – has an emergency homeless shelter that is open when the temperature is less than 20° or if Greene County declares a Snow Emergency level 2 or 3. They can serve up to 10 guests. They currently receive support from the House of Prayer, First Lutheran, and Athletes in Action. So far this season they have only been open 3 days. They do have a good relationship with the police. This is an open shelter the only requirements are you may not being carrying weapons and you may not be intoxicated. They can use more volunteer help. If you are interested please call Otto Anderson at 937-376-9432, he will get you teamed up with an experienced person. Xenia is also preparing for a Bazaar. You will be able to bid on quilts, art and other items. St. Paul’s – They are working on expanding their Appalachian Ministry with an Adult / Youth Mission Trip. The Life Enrichment Center is doing well. This is a facility to help the homeless and needy. They have education training and job placement help. They have also added meals on Saturday. A new Capital Campaign to raise funds for so needed upkeep to the facilities has begun and is going well. St. George’s – They are having and outreach spaghetti dinner. They are also going to have a youth mission trip to Guatemala. St. Christopher’s – They are making meals for the Ronald McDonald House and making adaptive clothing for kids. On Wednesday nights they are doing a “50 ways to pray” series. In Lent they will be reading Sacred Unions by our own Bishop Elect Thomas Breidenthal. St. Christopher’s has officially called Ruth to be their rector and they have added a new choir directress. Canterbury Court – In 2007 the program space and parking area will be expanded. The community room will be larger; they will add a beauty shop, exercise room, and a commercial grade kitchen. Henrietta can come to your parish on Sundays (except the 2nd Sunday) to talk about Canterbury Court. She works there on M, W, & F. There will be volunteer training at Canterbury Court on Saturday 1/27/07 from 10:00 – 1:00 call Henrietta at 859-7490 ext 108 if you are interested. St. Mark’s – We have added another self help group to the many community groups that use our facilities. The three major outreach projects we decided to focus on 1) Kemp School Church Partnership, 2) Canterbury Court, and 3) Care House are all going well. We are helping them with material needs and well as volunteer hours. Summer Camp registration is available online. The cost this year is $200. Make sure all of your parishioners know about Summer Camp! As a Deanery we are thinking of doing a youth Lock-in for Jr. and Sr. High Students. We are looking into having it at Canterbury Court. We are putting together ideas on a service project they can do during the lock-in. More information will follow. We are looking for the next meeting to be April 30th 8:00 --- Adjourn Mike Kreutzer ------------------ Deanery Lay delegates, Ah me, that's what I get for working at 3 a.m. in the morning. I sent One quick thought, as a delegate to the deanery, I'm hoping you'll Thanks again. Randy Young -------------------- May 2006 Randy Young wrote: This is copy of the note I sent out to your church offices and clergy Let me know Peace, Randy Young Greetings: Attached is a short note I am requesting that all the Dayton Episcopal These leaders will be: Sr. and Jr. Wardens, Music and/or Choir Additionally, there will be an invitation to members of each parish choir to participate in an "All Deanery Choir" that will sing during this service. Rehearsal will be at 8 a.m. just before the service at Christ Church. Music will consist of well know hymns and an easy Offertory piece. Please ask your Music/Choir directors to announce this at their rehearsals this week to begin recruiting. We are looking for AT LEAST 4 members from all 8 choirs to participate. This will be a wonderful opportunity for everyone to experience singing in our own cathedral downtown and to meet and greet fellow choir members from around town. Those that participate are to bring their own robes to represent their choir. I will be calling each of the church offices one week prior to the service for a roster of who will be participating. If you know who is available sooner I would ask you to email it to me. Thanks so much for your help, Peace in Christ, This past Friday March 10th, Bishop Price called together the Deans and Provosts of all the Deaneries of the Diocese of Southern Ohio for his first such gathering as Bishop. It was a wonderful opportunity for Dean Rev. Mike Kreutzer and I to listen and learn about our fellow Deaneries from all across the diocese. We came away pleased knowing that the Dayton Deanery is one of the most active deaneries in the diocese. Indeed the Dayton Episcopal Deanery has been having an active year so far with more to come. We have had two deanery meetings since last fall and at least two more are planned. Our first meeting in the fall at St. Christopher’s in Fairborn started off the year with representatives of the 8 member churches and Canterbury Court coming together to share what each were planning for the upcoming year. There was also a great presentation on website development and design. In February, we came together at St. Margaret’s, again for sharing what was happening in our own parishes as well as the diocese itself. We had presentations from Parish Health Ministries, Gen. Convention, and the Diocesan home office. On Sunday January 15th, the Deanery had a successful “Clergy Swap” with seven of the member parishes participating. Each shared their respective rector with another parish while hosting a visiting rector. This gave each an opportunity for to learn more about their fellow faith communities here in the Miami Valley and realize how blessed we are to have such inspiring and talented clergy amongst us. Responses from clergy afterwards were that they all learned a great deal about there host church and brought something of value back to their home parish. With this successful outcome, another “Clergy Swap” will be planned for next year. On Saturday April 29th, the Deanery will come together for its “Dayton Deanery Day” celebration. Christ Episcopal Church-Dayton will host this event that will bring clergy and lay leaders of various ministries from each parish together to meet with their respective counterparts. They will have an opportunity to learn about each other’s programs and share ideas help grow each other’s programs. The event will kick off with a celebration of Holy Eucharist that will be open for everyone deanery-wide. Afterwards, workshop programs will be held for leader or director of various Lay ministries including: Wardens and vestry members, Altar Guilds, Acolytes, Music Directors, Education Directors, Adult Education directors, and Youth Program Directors. Additional ministries may be added. 2002 Dayton Deanery Meeting The Dayton Deanery meeting was held on Monday September 9th,
2002 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Fairborn at 6:00 p.m. The
meeting began with a prayer from Rev Joanne Stearn, rector of St.
Christopher’s and a potluck dinner. Introductions
and a conversation about happenings at each parish followed dinner.
Christ Church Dayton is having an interfaith remembrance service on the
11th of September. St.
Andrew’s had over 100 people at their fall recall, and they recently finished
a 2-day rummage sale. St. Mark’s had their fall kickoff at the park, and is
working very hard on a church school partnership to help support the community
they are in. St. George’s has a
new service on Saturdays at 7:30 with a contemporary feel and a new website
address www.stgeorgeohio.org. St.
Margaret’s is working on fundraisers and hosting an aging commission
gathering. Christ Church Xenia is
starting fall Christian education as are all parishes but theirs will have
