Opening Songs:

Lord I Lift Your Name on High

Lord, I lift your Name on high,

How I love to sing your praises!

I’m so glad you’re in my life,

I’m so glad you came to save us!

You came from heaven to earth

to show the way.

From the earth to the cross,

my debt to pay.

From the cross to the grave,

from the grave to the sky,

Lord, I lift your Name on high! (repeat from the beginning)

Morning Has Broken (verses 1 and 2)

Morning Has Broken like the first morning,

Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.

Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning!

Praise for them, springing fresh from the Word!

Sweet the rain’s new fall sunlit from heaven,

Like the first dew fall on the first grass.

Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,

Sprung in completeness where his feet pass.

Lord of the Dance (congregation sings the refrain)

I danced in the morning when the world was begun,

And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun,

And I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth:

At Bethlehem I had my birth.

(refrain)            Dance, then, wherever you may be,

                          I am the Lord of the dance, said he,

And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be

And I’ll lead you all in the dance, said he.

I danced for the scribe and the Pharisee,

But they would not dance and they wouldn’t follow me;

I danced for the fishermen, for James and John;

They came with me and the dance went on: (refrain)

I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame:

The holy people said it was a shame.

They whipped and they stripped and they hung me on high,

And they left me there on a cross to die: (refrain)

I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black;

It’s hard to dance with the devil on your back.

They buried my body and they thought I’d gone;

But I am the dance, and I still go on: (refrain)

They cut me down and I leapt up high;

I am the life that’ll never, never die.

I’ll live in you if you’ll live in me:

I am the Lord of the dance, said he. (refrain)

The Collect of the Day

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and
prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined
together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

Please be seated.

First Reading: Genesis 22:1-14

A Reading from Genesis

     God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac; he cut the wood for the burnt offering, and set out and went to the place in the distance that God had shown him. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place far away. Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the boy and I will go over there; we will worship, and then we will come back to you.” Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on
together. Isaac said to his father Abraham, “Father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
     Abraham said, “God himself will provide the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.

     When they came to the place that God had shown him, Abraham built an altar there and laid the wood in order. He bound his son Isaac, and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill his son. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” And Abraham looked up and saw a ram, caught in a thicket by its horns. Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

Second Reading: Romans 6:12-14

A Reading from Romans

     Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no
longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

The Gospel: Matthew 10:40-42

Deacon                 The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.

People                  Glory to you, Lord Christ.

     We are intimately linked in this harvest work. Anyone who accepts what you do, accepts me, the One who sent you. Anyone who accepts what I do accepts my Father, who sent me. Accepting a messenger of God is as good as being God’s messenger. Accepting someone’s help is as good as giving someone help. This is a large work I’ve called you into, but don’t be overwhelmed by it. It’s best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. You won’t lose out on a thing.

Deacon                 The Gospel of the Lord.

People                  Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Hymn: Day by Day (sung to the tune from the musical, “Godspell”)

Day by day,

Day by day,

Oh, dear Lord, three things I pray:

To see thee more clearly,

Love thee more dearly,

Follow thee more nearly,

Day by day. (repeat from the beginning)

Homily                                                                                           The Rev. Jean Vargo

All stand as they are able.

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

             maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

             who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

             born of the Virgin Mary,

             suffered under Pontius Pilate,

             was crucified, dead, and buried.

             He descended into hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven.

and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,

the holy catholic Church
the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Holy Communion

The Great Thanksgiving

Eucharistic Prayer A, Book of Common Prayer (BCP), p. 361

Hymn: Praise to the Lord (verses 1 and 2)

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation;

O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation:

Join the great throng, psaltery, organ, and song,

Sounding in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord; over all things he gloriously reigneth:

Borne as on eagle wings, safely his saints he sustaineth.

Hast thou not seen how all thou needest hath been

granted in what he ordaineth?

All stand if able.

The Celebrant continues

     Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to
reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

     He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

     On the night he was handled over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

     After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said. “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.        Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Celebrant and People

Christ has died.

Christ is risen.

Christ will come again.

The Celebrant continues

     We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

     All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in the
unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.  Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray,

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
   thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
   as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
   for ever and ever. Amen.

A Holy Cycle

The transition process is a holy cycle.

It begins with discovering what God is already doing in our community. We observe, listen, and ask questions.

We look for the small and large ways God’s love is at work among our neighbors – whether they live next door or in the next town.

As we learn the needs of our community, we also pray and reflect on our own gifts and passions, both individually and as a parish. We remember Jesus’ call to go and make disciples and Isaiah’s promise that God is making all things new. Our passions, shaped by the Spirit, meet the needs of the world around us. This is where ministry begins.

To be the church is to participate in God’s work. It is less about filling pews or balancing budgets – important as those are – and more about living the gospel with compassion, mercy, and Christ-like love. It is being the hands and feet of Christ wherever we are.

As we shape our parish goals, we shape them for the sake of our neighbors. We offer our community a church that cares for them, prays for them, and is present with them. And as God continues to inspire us, the cycle begins again: discovering need, noticing God’s activity, and listening for the Spirit’s leading.

May the Spirit of God inspire and guide you.
